Something exciting is happening
We're so excited to be joining Howick Pre-Primary and offering swimming lessons to the children, right at school. This page is the very first step: we're gauging interest from parents so we can start planning for the new term in October 2026. No commitment yet, just a show of hands so we know who's keen.
Big changes are on the way
Here's what's coming for our little swimmers.
A Fully Heated Pool
The biggest change of all. The school is investing in heating to keep the water at a minimum of 30°C, so every little swimmer is warm and comfortable in the water, every single lesson.
A Structured 8-Week Season
Children swim twice a week: either Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Days and times are set for the season, because continuity is how real progress happens.
Lessons During the Morning
Lessons take place in the morning, at times agreed with the school. No extra trips, no afternoon rush. Your little one swims right where they already are.
Who we are
Starrfish Swim School started 24 years ago, when Gail Starr began teaching in a small home pool in Scottsville. Over the next 20 years it grew into one of the biggest swim schools in the area, swimming out of three pools and running the Learn To Swim programme at Epworth.
When Gail moved up to Howick three years ago, Starrfish closed its doors. Now she's thrilled to be starting up again with Howick Pre-Primary, and looking forward to spending her mornings teaching little ones to love the water and be safe in it.
